What a poorly written, incoherent mess this book is. I nullified my old rule to read at least 100 pages of any book before passing judgment. This crap got tossed in the garbage at page 35. Writing a negative review isn't something we should take lightly; however, it is also important for a well-known author to respect his or her readership enough not to rush to print a book that primarily is published only to take advantage of the current crisis much of the world is facing. The syntax consistently used throughout is what would be expected of a high school student who has never taken (nor had an interest in) creative writing. Open any page for an example. The book abounds in platitudes and banalities. The characters are 2 dimensional and their motivations difficult to follow. To be fair, I read it to the very last surprising page to see if there was some ending that would make it all worth having spent time reading it. Why surprising? Because it was only after I turned the page and saw there was nothing more that I realized that I had come to the shallow end. My mother taught me to always say something nice, so here you go: at least it is only 239 pages.
